Branding relates to who you are, what you do, and why you do what you do.
Your brand, like your reputation, is something you develop with or without your approval or permission.
Your brand is what people think about you when they hear your name . . . what they say about you when you’re not around.
While we do not control all the circumstances of life or the actions of others, we have 100% control over our own actions.
It can take a minute to gain a (better) sense of who you are. Ponder questions like:
- What makes me stand out from the crowd and my peers?
- What do I want to be known for by my customers, friends, students, co-workers, etc.?
- What do I do well and enjoy doing?
- What do I value?
- What do I stand for?
- What do I promote?
- What’s my reputation?
- What legacy do I want to leave?
We are what we do – through our everyday collection of choices. We refine and define our identities through our words and deeds.
Think of your personal brand as an independent source of power that leads you towards your destiny.
Whether you call yourself a brand or not isn’t as relevant as the fact that branding and reputation are intricately linked.
Authenticity rules the day so keep looking for ways to differentiate yourself and to put your own spin on what you do.

It’s not what you do. It’s how you do what you do.
